February 2, 2015 Amy E. Hall   Comments

This is the first installment of All in the Family, Out & About Nashville’s monthly events and entertainment column, spotlighting performances, productions and presentations by artists in our LGBTQ family.  February offers several fantastic opportunities for Nashville-area folks to experience and enjoy.  Here are the highlights:

2/3 - 2/8Kinky Boots plays at Andrew Jackson Hall

Tony-Award-winning musical Kinky Boots centers on a drag queen and her unlikely business partner.  With music and lyrics penned by Cyndi Lauper, it’s no wonder it’s a smash hit.

2/12Janet Mock speaks at Vanderbilt University

Activist/author Janet Mock will speak and sign copies of her New York Times best-selling memoir, Redefining Realness: My Path to Womanhood, Identity, Love & So Much More, at Vanderbilt University Blair School of Music’s Ingram Hall just before Valentine’s Day.  The event is a part of Vanderbilt Divinity School’s second annual Art, Advocacy, and Action symposium.

2/17Kate Pierson (of The B-52s) releases debut solo album Guitars & Microphones

The B-52s’ resident redhead, singer/songwriter Kate Pierson, will release her solo debut in mid-February.  The album features cowrites with Aussie pop songstress Sia.

2/22 - 2/25Margaret Cho performs at Zanies

Whether or not you noticed her on this year’s Golden Globe Awards show during the Fey/Poehler bits, you will have a chance to catch comedian Margaret Cho live at Zanies toward the end of the month.

2/26David Sedaris appears at Andrew Jackson Hall

New York Times best-selling humorist David Sedaris, author of nine books, will bring his sometimes-snarky, sometimes-larky storytelling to TPAC at the end of February.
