Nashville celebrates SCOTUS rulings

TEP and HRC host events; TEP gets a special surprise

June 26, 2013   Comments

Crowds packed into establishments along Church St. to celebrate today's marriage equality victories. First up, the Tennessee Equality Project (TEP) hosted the Middle Tennessee GLBT community at OutCentral with a town-hall style discussion.

Led by Board President Chris Sanders, the crowd flowed out into the lobby when Sanders opened up with welcoming remarks. Sanders proceeded to discuss upcoming TEP events, eventually lending the floor to Director of Marketing Wesley Summers. Summers shared more details about next month's Forward Friday which will be held at Tribe on July 19.

Sanders continued and recognized Pete Westerholm as well as TEP lobbyist Jenny Ford, asking the latter to introduce herself. A fervent Middle Tennessee GLBT community was then just as surprised as Ford when she introduced her partner to the crowd (see video below).

A touching moment on such a historic day.

Sanders also welcomed Sam Felker, member of the Tennessee Stonewall Bar Association. Felker recapped today's decisions and discussed what they means right now for Tennessee same-sex couples.  Felker then opened up the floor to questions. See the exchange below.

The Music City Sisters contributed by asking the community to sign a symbolic veil before leaving.

HRC hosts SCOTUS celebration at Tribe

Each bar at Tribe was packed as HRC hosted a SCOTUS celebration for the Middle Tennessee GLBT community and their allies.

Smiles abounded as everyone raised their glasses to toast today's victories.
