Holiday memories: Ciona Rouse

Ciona Rouse, a native of Mauldin, South Carolina, is a freelance writer based in Nashville. Since February 2010, she has served as an HIV Education/Testing Specialist at Nashville CARES.

Miss Ruby is more than 60 years old, but Christmas mornings for her are filled with the same joy as a six-year-old waiting for Santa Claus!

My sister and I have lived in Nashville together for about six years now, and Miss Ruby has found her way into our holiday hearts. She lives at a home for people with special needs here in Nashville. Her family lives outside of Nashville and cannot always afford to come to the city to get her for the holidays, so we are delighted that she would be open to share her Christmas with us each year. We always start the day with gifts and end the day with a movie at the theater (Miss Ruby loves popcorn and Diet Coke!). This year, the three of us will share our day with some friends who do not have homes through the Room in the Inn program at our church.
